WHODUNNIT?
comparisonstyleevidenceKS4-KS5

Expert reading is detective work, so here's a detective game where all the clues are words, and spotting the rights ones solves the case.

Study the stylistic fingerprints of a text (from register and idiolect, to tiny points of spelling, grammar, or even punctuation). Then hunt for more examples to build your case. Snip the tell-tale phrases, link the ones that share a feature, and brief DS Barnes before you accuse. Choose from three cases of increasing complexity: the Polwenna poison pen; the Bakery Bun Bandit; and the Five-Star Phantom.

What it trains

Forensic analysis and comparative reading: spotting style, register and authorship across texts, core transferable close reading skills.
